It looks as though we, the citizens of South Africa, are in for a long wait before we learn the truth of what really happened at Phala Phala and how hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars found their way into a couch. The most unlikely source of the funds was from the sale of buffalo.

Why is it that our leaders think that we citizens are really stupid and that we should just swallow what they dish out as the truth? It is possible that the money had political connections. Was it a handout from Iran/Hezbollah as a reward for the ANC government taking Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on charges of genocide in Gaza?

Maybe it was from Mother Russia as many of our leaders have or had close connections with this great political disruptor. Our leaders love the Russians, especially their hospitals. Were these funds part of an ANC election war chest?

Maybe “Cat” could throw some light on the matter? If only the Madlanga Commission could be given the task of unravelling the truth surrounding the Phala Phala dollars but maybe the president does not want the truth to be disclosed as it may ruin his legacy. Regardless of whether the source of these dollars is ever exposed, the legacy of the president may not be his dragging of Israel to the ICJ, but rather that under his watch the country’s judicial system, it’s national defence capability, it’s local governments, including most of our metros, have collapsed.

Water in Johannesburg, the economic centre of the country, may soon be a luxury only available to a lucky few. Is that a legacy to be proud of?
