Police probe destruction of billboards in Solwezi Central Constituency campaigns

Solwezi Police Station received the report on June 2, 2026 around 08:30 hours from Peter Kalusa, 32, campaign manager for Poho Kawina, an independent aspiring Member of Parliament for Solwezi Central Constituency. Polic Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday evening. Kalusa reported that two billboards displaying campaign materials for his candidate were allegedly damaged and removed from their installation sites by unknown persons.

Police officers visited and processed the scene in accordance with standard operating procedures, according to a statement issued by “The Zambia Police Service reminds the public that all candidates and political actors have the constitutional right to campaign freely and to display campaign materials using banners, posters, and other lawful means,” Chilabi said. He stated that the property damaged was valued at K24,600. “The Service further warns that damaging, removing, or destroying campaign materials belonging to another political party or candidate constitutes a criminal offence,” Chilabi noted.

Investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending the suspects are ongoing. “The Zambia Police Service will take firm lawful action against anyone found responsible for such acts, regardless of political affiliation or social status,” Chilabi said. He urged members of the public with information to come forward to assist with investigations.
