A family is demanding justice after a 38-year-old mother of three was allegedly stabbed to death in her home in the Honeyville area of Pietermaritzburg on Saturday night, days after reportedly receiving threats from a woman she had clashed with earlier in the week. The killing of Simangele Mkhize has sent shockwaves through the Pietermaritzburg community, with residents describing the incident as another grim reminder of the violence affecting women in local communities. Mkhize’s family alleges that the woman believed to be responsible for the attack fled the area shortly after the incident.
Speaking toThe Witness, the victim’s brother, Mfanufikile Mkhize (40), said the family was devastated by the loss. “I was called to the scene by her 16 year old daughter, who was the first person to find her after the stabbing,” he said. “My sister had three children.
Her youngest child is only one year old and was sleeping in the same bed with her when she was killed.” According to the family, Mkhize had received threats from a woman from the neighbourhood following a dispute earlier in the week. Mfanufikile alleged that the suspect was known in the community for violent behaviour and that residents had long feared her. The family has since opened a murder case at Mountain Rise police station and is calling on authorities to act swiftly.
