Car enthusiasts, families and food lovers are set for a full day of entertainment when the Phat Events Car Show rolls into Pietermaritzburg on Saturday. The annual event promises an impressive showcase of vehicles, live entertainment, family-friendly activities and a bustling food market, bringing together car culture and community spirit under one roof. Event organiser Ricardo Kumarsamy of Phat Events said this year’s show has been expanded to offer visitors a bigger and better experience.

We are going all out this year. Residents can expect a full car show experience, plenty of entertainment, and a great family atmosphere. Taking place at Raisethorpe Secondary School from 12pm to 10.30pm, the event will feature a range of attractions, including a show-and-shine competition, sound-off contest and park-off category, where vehicle owners can showcase their pride and joy.

More than 20 food stalls will be on site, creating opportunities for local traders and small businesses while giving visitors plenty of dining options throughout the day. Entertainment will continue from afternoon into the evening, with a local DJ keeping the atmosphere lively. Families will also be catered for, with a dedicated children’s zone featuring a jumping castle and other activities designed to keep younger visitors entertained.

Kumarsamy said safety remained a priority, with security personnel and police expected to patrol the venue throughout the event. The focus is on supporting local businesses and creating an enjoyable experience for the community. Mike Newton, chief executive officer of uMgungundlovu Economic Development Agency (Umeda), welcomed the event, saying it would help draw visitors to the area while providing a boost for local enterprises.
