The high-profile murder and rape case involving an alleged child killer was once again postponed today, adding to a series of delays that continue to stall proceedings. Amber-Lee Hughes, the accused at the centre of the case, appeared in court to a very different scene than in previous hearings. What was once a packed courtroom, closely followed by multiple media houses, painted a subdued picture today.

Only a handful of people were present, with theSouthern Courierthe sole media outlet in attendance.The matter had previously been postponed on March 12 due to logistical issues, despite expectations that witnesses would take the stand. That postponement brought the case to today, where hopes were again set for progress. State advocate Rolene Barnard informed the court that Judge Richard Mkhabela is currently in Pretoria attending to a civil appeal roll.

As a result, the matter was postponed to April 22. However, it remains unclear whether the judge will be available on that date, leaving the future of proceedings uncertain. During the previous postponement, it was expected that Elie Chalita, the father of the young victim, would be the first witness called by the State.
