uMngeni Municipality mayor Chris Pappas has once again publicly confirmed that he will not be contesting any position at the DA’s upcoming provincial congress next month. Pappas, who has been widely tipped and encouraged by supporters to enter the race, reiterated his stance in a brief post on his Facebook account. “I appreciate all the messages of encouragement and support, but I would like to reiterate that I will not be standing for any position at our upcoming DA Provincial Congress,” he said.

He also extended well wishes to those who will be contesting. “I wish all the candidates for all the different positions well on their respective campaigns,” Pappas added. His decision comes despite growing calls from supporters for him to take on a leadership role at the provincial level.

Commenting on his post, some even asked if they could not force him to run. Others, however, accepted the decision, as long as he was the mayor of uMngeni Municipality.
