It must become a centre of excellence that drives innovation, addresses local challenges, and creates job opportunities,” said Minister Chombo The visit signals a critical turning point in Chegutu’s development trajectory, with GHU expected to play a central role in reshaping the province’s educational and economic landscape Chegutu Mayor Rydes Machekera welcomed the government’s support and praised the Seventh Day Adventist Church for establishing the university in the town, calling it a visionary step that will benefit future generations He urged unity among councillors—across political divides—to ensure the success of the initiative
“This is about the future of our community, not politics We must all work together to support this institution and the growth it promises,” Machekera said GHUplans to offer programs in agriculture, medicine, and technology, aligning academic training with national development priorities The institution is expected to contribute to tackling pressing social issues such as drug abuse, youth unemployment, and skills gaps through targeted training and innovation hubs
