NewsBy Nigel Pfunde recently in Kezi, MaphisaKezi– The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development concluded a comprehensive assessment tour today of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road rehabilitation project on Friday.Contractors involved in the ambitious undertaking have assured government officials of their commitment to meeting established project deadlines.The rehabilitation initiative focuses on upgrading and widening the 440-kilometer highway, a critical artery connecting Bulawayo to the renowned tourism hub of Victoria Falls.To date, 47.5 kilometers of the road have been completed and opened to traffic, marking substantial progress in the program.The assessment delegation was led by Honourable Felix Mhona, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, accompanied by Honourable Richard Moyo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North Province, and Xolani Ncube, the provincial roads engineer for Matabeleland North alongside other senior government officials.During the tour, Minister Mhona articulated the primary objective of the assessment to verify contractor presence on site and adherence to scheduled progress. He further emphasized that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has issued a directive for the expedited completion of the road rehabilitation, aiming to enhance transportation efficiency for both motorists and tourists.“I am happy with the works that I have witnessed,” stated Minister Mhona.“Works are progressing well and by the end of this year, the road will be completed up to Victoria Falls.”Minister Richard Moyo echoed this sentiment, expressing satisfaction with the advancements and highlighting the significant benefits the improved highway will bring to Matabeleland North Province. “We are happy as a province, and we want to thank His Excellency President Mnangagwa,” he remarked.Minister Moyo elaborated that the project is segmented among eight contractors, each tasked with specific sections of the highway.
