“If we focus solely on Maputo province, where Mozal is located, in terms of overall production, Mozal accounts for roughly 40%,” said Inocêncio Impissa today, acknowledging that Mozal’s exit will have a significant impact on the country’s economy. Impissa further stated that there is no longer scope for negotiations with Mozal.
“There was a time when we did negotiate effectively. We thought it might still be possible, particularly regarding the country’s energy capacity… If Mozambique had been able to supply the power, the negotiations would have continued and the issue would eventually have been agreeing on the most appropriate price,” he said.
