The appointment, announced on Tuesday by the Office of the Traditional Prime Minister, forms part of the King’s efforts to modernise and reinforce the governance structures of the Zulu Kingdom while positioning it for long-term stability and development. Prince Afrika Zulu will serve as deputy to Royal Chancellor Iso leSilo Malusi Zondi and will assist in overseeing the work of the Office of the Royal Chancellor as well as supporting the broader governance systems of the Kingdom. His appointment places him within the Prime Minister’s Executive Council, the highest decision-making structure of the Zulu Kingdom under the authority of King Misuzulu.
The council is chaired by Traditional Prime Minister Thulasizwe Buthelezi and includes Deputy Traditional Prime Minister Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, Royal Chancellor Malusi Zondi, the King’s spokesperson Prince Thulani Zulu, and the King’s representative in the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders, Prince Nathi Zulu. According to the Office of the Traditional Prime Minister, the council plays a central role in supporting the King’s governance priorities, preserving Zulu cultural heritage, driving community development programmes and managing national engagements. The Office of the Traditional Prime Minister congratulated Prince Afrika Zulu on his appointment and wished him success as he assumes the new responsibility in service of the King and the Zulu Nation.
