Lithium Export Ban in 2027 Aims to Boost Local Industry

In a bold policy shift, Zimbabwe will ban the export of raw lithium concentrates starting in January 2027. Authorities aim to promote local beneficiation by encouraging construction of lithium-processing plants and refineries.

This strategic decision is meant to ensure that more economic value is retained within the country instead of being lost through raw exports. Zimbabwe holds some of the world’s largest lithium reserves, vital for electric vehicle batteries.
