Mighty Wanderers president and board chairperson Thomson Mpinganjira believes the Nomads have what it takes to compete in the CAF Champions League. The business mogul and philanthropist said this after endorsing the team’s participation in the 2026/27continental club showpiece after winning the 2025 TNM Super League title. In an interview yesterday, Mpinganjira, who is also the club’s main sponsor, said: “We will join the CAF tourney.
I have approved participation. “I believe that we have a good squad to do the job.” On the likelihood of beefing up the squad ahead of next season, he said: “Like every club, we are beefing up our squad off season.” Last year, Mpinganjira bankrolled the team’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup in which they were eliminated in the first preliminary round by Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana 4-3 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 stalemate over two legs. He pumped in K500 million towards the team’s prepartations, including chartering a plane, accommodation and allowances.
The club’s director of football development David Kanyenda said they will not join the tournament just to make up the numbers. “We will have thorough preparations. Most of our players are now exposed to playing on the international stage, including those that have played for the national team,” he said.
