Multiple areas in the Pietermaritzburg CBD have been without water since Thursday morning due to several burst pipes in the city. Msunduzi Municipality said water was expected to be restored shortly, as repairs have now been completed. City spokesperson Ntobeko Mkhize said technical teams had been working to repair a burst water pipe along Victoria Road, which affected water supply to large parts of the central business district.
“We can confirm that repairs to the damaged infrastructure have been completed. Teams are currently recharging and stabilising the water supply system, which is a critical process to allow water pressure to normalise and ensure that supply is restored safely and sustainably,” Mkhize said. Water supply has already been restored to some areas of the CBD, with restoration continuing progressively to other affected areas as the system stabilises.
Mkhize apologised for the inconvenience caused and acknowledged the disruption the outage had on businesses, residents and daily operations within the CBD. “The municipality thanks affected consumers for their patience and cooperation while repairs were carried out. Further updates will be communicated should the need arise,” he said.
