TWO children died in Garwi Village, under Chief Marange, after they drowned in a deep well while playing on Wednesday morning. Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident. He said the two children, a boy and a girl, were playing in the yard at their home when tragedy struck.
Ass-Insp Chinyoka said the duo’s mother, Nyasha Chigodora (22), was in the kitchen attending to another child. After that, she went outside to check on the toddlers but could not find them. She went to a nearby well and noticed that the iron sheet covering the deep well had been disturbed.
When she looked into the well, she saw the lifeless bodies of the children floating in the water. She immediately called her husband, Shadreck Chazuwa (35), who rushed to the scene. Villagers gathered and assisted the couple in retrieving the bodies from the deep well.

The matter was reported at Bezel Bridge Police Base. Police confirmed that no visible injuries were found on the bodies and investigations are underway. Meanwhile, Ass-Insp Chinyoka has urged parents and guardians to closely monitor young children and exercise extra caution, particularly in areas where there are uncovered or unsecured water bodies.
