A murder investigation is underway after a man was stabbed outside the Glenwood Supermarket in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday night. A police source told The Witness that officers responded to a report of an assault at the store at about 9 pm. When they arrived, they found the man lying in a pool of blood near the entrance.
He was still alive but critically injured. Emergency services had not yet reached the scene, and the man’s family arranged private transport to rush him to Northdale Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Witnesses told police that the stabbing followed an argument between the two men. The suspect allegedly accused the victim of attempting to rob him two days earlier. “The suspect claimed the victim tried to rob him.

A confrontation took place, which escalated into a deadly stabbing,” the police source said. Members of the Mountain Rise tracing team immediately launched a search and arrested the suspect a short while later in the area. According to the source, the victim suffered a deep wound to his right thigh and another stab wound to his upper back. Police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
