Crime & CourtNewsBy Nigel PfundeHarare- NetOne Cellular (Pvt) Ltd Chief Executive Officer Raphael Mushanawani (60) has been released on US$500 bail after appearing before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on fraud allegations involving more than US$1.2 million Wednesday.Mushanawan was arraigned before Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa. The State had opposed bail but the court ruled in his favour, stating that he was not a flight risk.“He is employed and has a fixed abode,” ruled Gofa.As part of his bail conditions, Mushanawani was ordered to surrender his passport and not interfere with State witnesses. The case was brought before the court by NetOne itself represented by board chairperson Engineer Taurayi Maurukira.According to prosecutors, the alleged fraud stems from a 2022 procurement exercise where NetOne sought to replace its outdated SAGE 1000 system with a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. The tender was awarded to Farevic Systems (Pvt) Ltd for US$2.4 million to supply and implement the SAP system. However, while Farevic was still carrying out the project Mushanawani allegedly connived with other senior managers yet to be arrested to divert company funds. He reportedly misled both the Executive Management Committee and the board into approving what he described as an urgent upgrade of the old SAGE 1000 system, despite its scheduled phase-out.These allegations were rubbished by his lawyers Rubaya and Chatambudza Associates who described Zacc investigating officer as not alive to ICT issues and “ignorant”.Mushanawani is expected to return to court on October 22 for routine remand.Analysts say he is a victim of internal squabbles orchestrated by some management members who have ambitions to ursurp power.Leave a ReplyCancel reply Crime & CourtNewsBy Nigel PfundeHarare- NetOne Cellular (Pvt) Ltd Chief Executive Officer Raphael Mushanawani (60) has been released on US$500 bail after appearing before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on fraud allegations involving more than US$1.2 million Wednesday.Mushanawan was arraigned before Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa.
