Former KwaZulu-Natal leader of the ANC’s then radical economic transformation (RET) faction Nkosentsha Shezi has died. Shezi was currently serving as a Member of Parliament for Jacob Zuma’s MK Party. A staunch supporter of Zuma, Shezi has been instrumental in mobilising KZN funeral parlours to support Zuma.

MK Party national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhela confirmed that Shezi died on Sunday due to natural causes. His presence in Parliament and within the structures of the MK Party was marked by discipline, courage and a deep sense of responsibility to the movement and to the nation. We have lost not only a patriot and public servant, but also a comrade whose contribution to the struggle for dignity, equality and transformation will remain etched in the history of our organization. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by his colleagues, constituents, friends and family.

We stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time and pray that they find strength and comfort in the legacy he leaves behind,” he said. Alongside former ANC spokesperson and now EFF MP Carl Niehaus, Shezi played a key role in mobilising support for Zuma during the former president’s 2021 arrest. Shezi’s efforts resulted in multitudes of Zuma supporters camping outside his house for days as part of the bid to prevent the police from arresting him.
