Zimpapers Acting CEO chronicles media giant’s journey

Zimpapers has taken a bold step into the future of journalism by launching its integrated newsroom this afternoon, thereby signalling a shift to a digital-first approach in response to changing audience habits.

Speaking at the launch, acting Chief Executive Officer Mr William Chikoto said the move reflects the company’s commitment to delivering news quickly and efficiently across digital platforms while maintaining the influence of its print and broadcast channels.

ā€œOver a decade ago, we recognised the need to evolve as audiences became increasingly digital. Today, we unveil a newsroom designed to commission, edit, and publish stories on digital platforms first, before curating content for print and broadcast,ā€ Mr Chikoto said.

While print remains influential and continues to reach high-impact audiences, digital content is now prioritised, particularly for mobile users who represent a rapidly growing segment of Zimpapers’ readership.

However, Mr Chikoto stressed that the move to digital does not signal the end of print.

ā€œPrint newspapers remain vital, trusted, and influential. What we are doing is giving audiences the freedom to choose the platform that suits them best, whether print, radio, television, or digital,ā€ he said.
