Zimbabwe’s legendary dub poetry artist,Albert Nyathi, is set to dazzle international audiences as he headlines the Inkaba Festival (also known as theUmbilical Cord Festival) in London on 3 August 2025 and in Birmingham on 9 August 2025 Nyathi, a multi-award-winning artist, left Zimbabwe for Europe earlier this week, departing from Robert Mugabe International Airport But before boarding his flight, Nyathi took a moment to reflect on a tragic incident in his homeland, expressing his condolences for the lives lost in a head-on collision in Chitungwiza on Tuesday “Firstly, I send my condolences to the families affected by the Chitungwiza accident
I wish a speedy recovery to the injured and offer my support to those who have lost loved ones,” Nyathi said solemnly Despite the sorrow,Nyathiremained upbeat about his upcoming performance at the Inkaba Festival “I’m just minutes away from boarding a flight to Europe for the festival Inkaba, which means ‘umbilical cord’, is all about reconnecting African children with the heart of their heritage,” he explained
For Nyathi, the Inkaba Festival represents more than just another international performance “This festival is special It’s not just a celebration of music but also a chance to unite African communities around the world, particularly those from Zimbabwe, and share the beauty of our culture,” he shared This won’t be Nyathi’s first international festival
The iconic artist, who has performed at countless events across the globe, spoke about the uniqueness of the Inkaba Festival “I’ve been fortunate enough to perform at many festivals worldwide, but Inkaba has a distinct focus—it brings together African people to connect with their roots and experience Zimbabwean artistry.”
