According to sources, the only item stolen from the 13-roomed farmhouse was a cellphone worth a mere US$10.
This has led many to question whether the gunmen were truly after valuables or if their primary objective was to eliminate Mutangadura. “This incident has left us with more questions,” said one family member, speaking on condition of anonymity. “What is disturbing is that the gang was not after the money but the life of Joseph. ”
Mutangadura was a well-known figure in Ruwa, owning a string of successful businesses including Lisheen Estate, the popular Mutangadura Hideout, Mutangaz Panyama, several butcheries, and various other ventures.
His murder has left the closely-knit Mutangadura community in a state of disbelief and mourning.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the incident and launched a full-scale investigation.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided the following account:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating cases of murder and robbery, which occurred at a farm along Dustain Road, Ruwa, popularly known as Mutangadura Hideout, on 17th August 2025 at around 2300 hours, where a businessman, Mutangadura Joseph, was shot dead during a suspected robbery incident.
Seven unknown suspects, who were armed with unidentified pistols, claw bars and hammers, while covering their faces with balaclavas, pounced at the business premises where they attacked the security guard who was securing the premises. “They tied his hands with shoe laces and took him to the victim’s house, where they broke into the house through the door, using metal bars.
The suspects forced the security guard and the victim’s son to lie down in the dining room while proceeding to the room where the victim was sleeping with his wife.
The suspects shot the victim on the stomach and ransacked the house before leaving.
The victim and his wife, who were both unconscious, were rushed to Eden Hospital, Windsor, Ruwa, where the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The details and value of the stolen property is yet to be verified. ”
Commissioner Nyathi initially stated, “I am still waiting for the details of the case and will soon issue a comprehensive statement on what transpired. ” A team of detectives from the CID Homicide in Harare has been deployed to the farm to conduct thorough investigations.
According to the ZRP statement, the suspects overpowered a security guard on duty, tying his hands with shoelaces before forcing him into the house.
Using metal bars, they broke down a door to gain entry before confronting Mutangadura, who was in bed with his wife, Patience. “The suspects shot the victim in the stomach before ransacking the house,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
Mutangadura was hit several times in the stomach and chest.
Both Mutangadura and his wife were rushed to Eden Hospital in Windsor, Ruwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His wife, Patience, was left unconscious and rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital.
