BusinessNewsHarare: The government of Zimbabwe has suspended the export of all raw minerals and lithium concentrates, an action geared at compelling all the mining companies to process their materials in Zimbabwe. Along with the prohibition of all exports of raw materials which takes effect even in the case of consignments which are already in transit, the government has introduced additional restrictions on the export of other minerals namely the introduction of stricter requirements aimed at transparency and value addition in the country. The export capacity has been seriously limited under the new obligatory provisions. Exports have now been limited to only mining companies with valid mining titles and approved beneficiation plants.
The Ministry explicitly provided that agents and third party traders are no longer allowed to export minerals on behalf of title holders.Applicants of the export permits now have to obtain a recommendation letter of the relevant Provincial Mining Office. The applicant must be properly beneficiated and must also undergo compliance with the regulations of the Ministry through this letter. The exporters must state the complete mineral composition of their consignments. The Minister has threatened to carry out random inspections to ascertain these declarations and no application would be done unless it is fully adhered to.
Exportation of any minerals without valid permits and full documentation will not get clearance. In a stark threat to the industry, the government said that the further utilization of an expired or already exhausted export permit is a grave violation which may result in the suspension of both the export permit and the underlying mining title.Although the directive is an immediate stop to the trade in the raw minerals, the Ministry said it will engage the industry in the near future to set new terms and the way forward. The government restated that these actions are being undertaken to increase the accountability of the mineral, facilitate beneficiation and increase the value retention in Zimbabwe.Leave a ReplyCancel reply BusinessNewsHarare: The government of Zimbabwe has suspended the export of all raw minerals and lithium concentrates, an action geared at compelling all the mining companies to process their materials in Zimbabwe.
