Zimbabwe hosts Pan African Parliament delegation for continental mining summit
Story by Farai GwazeA high-level delegation from the Pan African Parliament (PAP) has arrived in Zimbabwe ahead of a strategic mining summit scheduled for Wednesday in Harare. The summit aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and strengthen economic cooperation among African nations in the mining sector.Among the distinguished delegates is Ambassador Bridgette Motsepe, who touched down at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Tuesday. Ambassador Motsepe brings decades of industry experience, including operational involvement in Zimbabwe’s mining landscape.“I started in 1986 as the first black producer for underground mining in Africa, because in those years we had pick and shovel mining and artisanal mining. It was very important for us to become more sophisticated in how to produce.
So I owned a company that was recognised by big mining houses, even here in Zimbabwe, and I also owned a mine here in Zimbabwe in Shurugwi,” she said. She commended the leadership of Pan African Parliament President, Chief Fortune Charumbira, for fostering a collaborative environment where African nations can learn from each other’s successes.“I am very happy that our president of the Pan African Parliament, who is from Zimbabwe, Chief Fortune Charukbira, is very unique and very good, and we were talking about looking at sharing from each other, what each country has done and managed to achieve in terms of ownership, and learning from each other,” Ambassador Motsepe said. The engagement is set to bolster synergies across the continent’s mining sector, paving the way for shared prosperity and wealth creation across the continent.
