TweetBy Michael Gwarisa Doctors across various specialties in Zimbabwe have delivered a damning verdict on the Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS), ranking it the worst medical aid service provider in the country in a new performance survey by the Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA).

The online poll, conducted from 14 to 21 April 2025, drew responses from 117 doctors nationwide.

Using secure, anonymous voting, practitioners rated medical aid societies on how quickly they pay claims, the size of shortfalls, responsiveness to complaints, and overall customer service.

PSMAS came last, with doctors pointing to chronic delays in paying for services already rendered, poor communication, and inadequate customer support.

Many practitioners said such inefficiencies strain their practices and jeopardize patient care.

ZiMA says the quarterly survey is meant to hold medical aid societies accountable and push for reforms.

The association is expanding its question set and doctor database to capture even more detailed feedback in future surveys, and will submit findings to the Association of Healthcare Funders of Zimbabwe (AHFOZ).

The results of the first survey will be shared with AHFOZ via the NTLC representativesBy making the rankings public, ZiMA hopes pressure from healthcare professionals and the public will force underperforming societies to improve, and ensure patients get the service they pay for.
