Zimbabwe and Rwanda forge partnership to strengthen anti-corruption efforts

Story by Memory ChamisaZIMBABWE and Rwanda have strengthened their cooperation in the fight against corruption by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing capacity development and exchange of technical expertise.The agreement, signed in Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Chairperson Mr Michael Reza and Rwanda’s Chief Ombudsman Mrs Madeline Nirere, establishes a framework for collaboration aimed at enhancing investigative efficiency, improving corruption prevention strategies, recovering assets lost to illicit activities, and advancing joint research and training programmes.Mr Reza said the partnership between the two institutions aligns with Africa’s Agenda 2063, which envisions a continent characterised by high standards of living, quality of life, and well-being for all its citizens.“Today, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and Rwanda’s Ombudsman Office signed a Memorandum of Understanding on anti-corruption.

The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for collaboration to enhance investigative efficiency, improve prevention strategies, boost the recovery of assets lost through illicit activities, and joint research training,” ZACC said in a statement.Rwanda’s Chief Ombudsman, Mrs Nirere said the MoU will enable the two countries to learn from each other’s experiences, share best practices, and strengthen respective institutional capacities in preventing and combating corruption.The MoU between ZACC and the Ombudsman’s Office of Rwanda follows a decision made at the 3rd Session of the Rwanda-Zimbabwe Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC), held in August this year, to intensify and deepen bilateral ties.Bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Rwanda have strengthened since the first JPCC meeting in 2021 with the two countries having already signed MoUs on Police Cooperation, Energy, Youth Affairs, Health and Mutual Assistance and Exchange of Customs Information.
