ZIFA Suspends U17 Selection Activities Countrywide

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended all ongoing Under-17 player selection activities across the country with immediate effect, citing the need to realign its technical and development processes.

In a statement issued on 1 August 2025, ZIFA said the decision affects all provincial structures and will remain in effect until further notice.

“This directive is intended to ensure full procedural alignment ahead of the next phase of national planning and preparation,” the association said. “The suspension will allow the Association to consolidate efforts and streamline its technical development pathways in the interest of long-term youth football progression.”

The announcement comes as ZIFA seeks to reform its youth structures amid longstanding criticism over inconsistency, poor coordination, and lack of transparency in player development and selection processes.

While the decision halts grassroots selection events, ZIFA has instructed provincial structures to submit their current lists of selected players. The lists must be sent to the ZIFA Technical Department via email at, with a copy to.

ZIFA thanked provincial football leaders for their continued cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to developing youth football in Zimbabwe.
