The Zhingjin Heli Energy’s 5 Miles Industrial Park in Hwange has the potential to contribute significantly to Zimbabwe’s economy with investments valued at over US$500 million, says Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Winston Chitando. During his tour of the company in Hwange, Minister Chitando highlighted that the project aligns with the Government’s 2030 vision and its commitment to value addition and beneficiation. “This project is a major step towards achieving our vision of becoming an upper-middle-income economy,” he stated.

“The value addition and beneficiation aspect of this project is particularly impressive, as it maximises the use of our natural resources and creates a range of economic benefits.” The 5 Miles Industrial Park is an integrated development that includes a coal-fired power plant, a cement factory, and a coking plant. The power plant has a capacity of 235 megawatts, with 100 megawatts already being produced. Minister Chitando said the cement factory produces 500 000 tonnes of cement per annum, utilising fly ash from the power plant, while the coking plant produces high-quality coke for the steel industry.

The project’s economic impact is substantial, with an estimated annual revenue of US$500 million. “This project demonstrates the potential for industrial development to drive economic growth and create wealth in Zimbabwe,” the Minister said. “We are committed to supporting initiatives like this that contribute to our economic development goals.” Zhongjin’s managing director, Mr Dye, expressed his gratitude for the Minister’s visit, saying it demonstrated the Government’s support for the project.
