Zimbabwe’s LPG retailing has increased due to the increased consumption levels.

In 2024, 77 million kgs of LPG were imported and consumed according to Zera 2024 Annual Performance report.

A total of 622 licensed retail sites were inspected for compliance, with a compliance rate standing at 93. 7 percent.

Notwithstanding the prevalence of illegal LPG vending sites, compliance to standards at retail sites continues to improve due to Zera’s ban of the use of smuggled cylinders by retailers, the authority has said.

Zera said the quality of LPG has remained at permissible levels as all samples tested were found to be within specifications.

Meanwhile, the authority said the increase of accidents due to mishandling of LPG and not observing safety procedures was notable and of great concern last year.

Zera continues to train LPG operators and educate consumers on safe handling and use of LPG.
