HARAREThe Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF) has praised the continued support it is receiving from CABS Bank as it prepares to host the fourth edition of the CABS Candidates Chess Tournament in Bulawayo from 19–22 December. Addressing journalists on Wednesday, ZCF president Todd Mapingire said the federation is grateful for the sponsorship from CABS, which has made it possible to stage the prestigious tournament. “The purpose of this media briefing is to acknowledge the sponsorship of Cabs Bank in the fourth edition of the Cabs Candidates Chess tournament that will take place in Bulawayo from 19-22 December.
Mapingire also expressed appreciation to Christian Brothers College (CBC), Bulawayo, for providing the tournament venue free of charge, as well as availing some of its staff to assist during the event. The tournament is open to Zimbabwean players of all age groups, with winners in both the Open Section and the Ladies Section earning automatic qualification for the 2026 National Chess Championships. Mapingire noted a growing interest in chess among young players, particularly those aged 16–18 years.
“There has been a notable increase in interest in the 16–18 age group, and we expect strong participation from this category. As a result, we have made accommodation arrangements for them,” he added. Registration for the tournament is still ongoing and will close on Thursday.
