Zion Christian Church-Kumukakuvakafa (ZCC-K) says the country’s heroes deserve to be celebrated for bringing independence, which engendered freedom of worship.

ZCC-K Bishop Lyphet Nhaudzashe Mugaviri Matenda told thousands of his church’s congregants that liberation war heroes like President Mnangagwa must be celebrated always for bringing dignity to the black majority, including indigenous churches.

Speaking at the church’s Canaan sub-headquarters during a conference to mark the church’s 49 years of existence and Bishop Matenda’s 42nd birthday, he said Zimbabweans should unite to develop their country in unison.

Bishop Matenda noted that the only way to pay homage to the country’s heroes was to build on the foundation of the freedom they bequeathed to the present and future generations.

He called for close collaboration between the church and the Government, saying the two parties should work closely together to bring harmony and prosperity.

Bishop Matenda paid tribute to President Mnangagwa’s administration for creating empowerment opportunities for indigenous churches.

At the conference, Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) president Archbishop Edgar Maireva announced Bishop Matenda as the new vice president of his organisation.

In his address, Archbishop Maireva also praised President Mnangagwa’s government for creating the right conditions and space for churches to preach the word of God in peace.

Mwenezi District Development coordinator Mr Isaac Mutambara, who represented Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira, hailed ZCC-K for its contributions to national development through various church programmes.
