The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has reiterated Zambia’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation as a key driver of sustainable fisheries and livestock development, food security, trade and economic growth. Choombe said this when the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Zambia, Cyprian Luhemeja, paid a courtesy call on him at Mulungushi House in Lusaka. He welcomed the Tanzanian government’s interest in learning from Zambia’s fisheries and livestock programmes, describing the proposed collaboration as a demonstration of the strong and cordial relations that exist between the two neighboring countries.

“Strengthened cooperation between Zambia and Tanzania will contribute to improved fisheries and livestock production, increased investment, enhanced food security and the attainment of shared regional development aspirations,” Choombe said. He reaffirmed Zambia’s readiness to share experiences and technical expertise in support of regional integration and sustainable agricultural development. To facilitate the exchange, Choombe directed that technical teams from the Ministry work closely with the Tanzanian High Commission to coordinate field visits to selected fisheries and livestock projects that showcase Zambia’s best practices and ongoing sector reforms.

Meanwhile, Luhemeja said the Tanzanian Mission was keen to learn from Zambia’s experience and best practices in the sustainable management of inland fisheries, aquaculture development and livestock production. “Enhanced cooperation between the two countries would facilitate knowledge exchange, strengthen institutional collaboration and contribute to the sustainable development of the fisheries and livestock sectors,” he said. The Two Officials further said the partnership was expected to deepen trade ties and support the implementation of regional frameworks on food security and agricultural transformation.
