Music lovers across South Africa have been left disappointed as a series of anticipated live shows have been postponed, affecting fans who had been looking forward to seeingZakes Bantwini,Nontokozo MkhizeandDe Rosetake to the stage. Bantwini confirmed that the Mayonie Open Air Durban event scheduled for April 26 will no longer take place as planned.
He explained that the decision was made out of respect for the Metro FM Music Awards weekend. “We’d like to inform you that the Mayonie Open Air Durban on April 26 will be postponed. As this weekend holds significant cultural importance with the Metro FM Music Awards, we believe it is important to honour and support this moment within the industry rather than overlap with it,” he said.
He added that Metro FM’s Love Movement event is set for the same day. “We feel it would not be in the spirit of Mayonie to compete with such a celebrated occasion. We have therefore made the decision to step back in full respect of Metro FM, one of South Africa’s most beloved radio institutions, and to give their weekend the space it deserves,” Bantwini said.
