Ten hopefuls abandoned their comfort to be crammed together in a Toyota Quantum for 10 days for a chance to drive away with a BMW M240i. Sleep deprivation, eliminations, emotional exits and a random wheel of misfortune have been part of the drama since day one of the Goldrush East Coast Radio challenge at Hillcrest Corner Shopping Mall. The competition is now on day six and two contestants have already voluntarily exited the challenge for health reasons, while others have been eliminated through challenges and twists designed to test endurance and mental resilience.
The first contestant to leave was Adeela Mohamed, who stepped away after the first night citing health concerns. Then came Nolwazi Cele after she was relegated alongside two contestants before her fate was sealed by a random wheel of misfortune. Fan favourite Jermain Harilal, described by viewers as the main character of the competition because of his outspoken personality and humour, was also eliminated.
Another contestant, Sinead Coles, voluntarily exited on Monday morning due to personal health reasons. Despite leaving the competition, eliminated contestants walk away with R10 000 cash, a Fieldbar cooler and East Coast Radio merchandise. The challenge, which is being livestreamed around the clock, has attracted growing attention online as viewers follow the daily eliminations, emotional moments and tensions unfolding inside the vehicle. Only a few remain standing in the race for the luxury BMW, with the winner set to be crowned at the end of the 10-day challenge on May 11.
