Native Youth Animators for Development Organisation has trained women in briquettes business in Nsanje District on entrepreneurship skills. The organisation’s executive director Jonas January said they wanted the women to acquire knowledge of running businesses successfully. He said: “We have trained women from two clubs in the district how to manage businesses successfully.

We want them to know business development and implementation, market research, business planning and record keeping and financial management. “Considering that the businesses need sustainable growth, we also trained them on savings and credit management, forms of business organisations, marketing and customer engagement, collective marketing and action, including reflections and development action plan.” Janimu Club chairperson Enert Kalumphalinga from Kafumphe Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Malemia said the training equipped them with skills to run their businesses well. “We learned how to make briquettes from maize cobs, bran, sawdust, rice husks and used papers.

They also bought us a machine for briquette production,” she said. On her part, Tikondane Club member Rose Mzava from Pensulo Village in T/A Malemia said they were expecting their business to grow. Nsanje district environmental district officer Lusungu Msiska commended the organisation for the training. “The use of briquettes will give people an alternative source of fuel instead of depending on charcoal,” he said.
