Anotida ChonziHerald ReporterA Harare woman has successfully applied for an upward variation in maintenance paid for her three minor children.Ms Loren Mamvura appeared before Harare Civil Court magistrate Ms Faina Makumbe seeking an upward variation to US$200 from US$80 from Mr Fredrick Kapendeke, stating that the children’s school fees were increased from US$25 to US$45 and also that one of the children needed to go for an medical operation. The court ordered Mr Kapendeke to pay US$90 and 700 ZiG per month for their three minor children, up from US$80.Ms Mamvura told the court that she tried to reach out to Mr Kapendeke several times but he would refuse to talk to her hence her decision to apply for an upward variation.“Every time I call him, he makes his wife talk to me, who then insults me, telling me to leave her husband,” she said.“I told her to tell him that the children’s school fees were increased and that our child needs to go for a surgery but he never gave me a response.”Ms Mamvura also told the court that Mr Kapendeke has not been paying maintenance for the past five months.“Living with my children has become difficult because we do not have any financial support apart from what I earn, and right now I cannot even talk to him because he blocked me,” she said.In response, Mr Kapendeke said he was proposing to give Ms Mamvura 700 ZiG, since he was also supporting four other children and repaying some loans.“I am already struggling to take care of my four children because most of my salary is covering my loan, I can give her 700 ZiG at the moment,” he said.He also told the court that he blocked Ms Mamvura because she would insult him when she called.“We discussed our child’s surgery and I told her I am looking for money but she kept calling and insulting me, so I then blocked her,” he said. After hearing submissions from both parties, Ms Makumbe ordered Mr Kapendeke to pay school fees for all the children and also a maintenance of US$90 and 700 ZiG.Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
