SAPS probe fatal coffee shop blast in Marine Drive incident. A 62-year-old woman died following a suspected generator explosion at a local coffee shop on Marine Drive in Gqeberha on Monday. “It is alleged that, just before 1pm, the deceased, identified as Jo-Ann Pieters, sustained severeburn woundswhen a generator reportedly exploded.

“She was transported to a private hospital by ambulance,” said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg. She was admitted to a trauma unit. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to herinjuriesshortly afterwards.

“No foul play is suspected at this stage. Police have opened an inquest docket, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.”
