Ladysmith police are investigating a viral video involving officers operating in the Watermeet / Besters area. CCTV footage recorded on Sunday evening, December 21 last year, shortly before 18:00, shows a female police officer allegedly assaulting a young woman outside a tavern. The incident reportedly occurred during a police raid on the tavern.
In the footage, the woman is seen standing outside the premises carrying what appears to be beer. The officer is then seen exiting the tavern and allegedly slapping the woman several times, causing her to drop some of the beers. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed that the incident did take place and involved Ladysmith police officers. He added that the matter is under investigation.
