In a bizarre twist to an e-hailing hijacking, one of the suspects allegedly donned a wig and dress to disguise himself as a woman while posing as part of a couple requesting a ride in Matsulu, in Mpumalanga. According to Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), in a statement released on Thursday night, the incident took place on February 13. The suspects allegedly posed as a couple and requested an e-hailing ride near Boxer Matsulu Shopping Complex at around 8 pm.
“The occupants initially requested transport to the Matsulu and N4 crossing in Mpumalanga before asking that the trip be extended to the Kaapmuiden hiking area.” Balram said it is alleged that when the driver and his friend reached a remote area near Uitkyk, the victims were held at gunpoint. They were then forced from the vehicle and abandoned in a nearby sugar cane field. “The suspect who was disguised as a female reportedly removed the wig and dress before the victims were dumped in the plantation.” Balram added the suspects fled in a white Suzuki Ertiga.
“The vehicle reportedly has a dent on the rear bumper and a dent on the rear right panel. The victims were later assisted by three passing motorcyclists.” He urged anyone with information regarding the vehicle to contactRusa on 0861234333.
