In a strongly worded warning, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the so-called “ZRP press statement” — which carried the national police logo and even a forged signature of national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi — is completely bogus.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard it as false and misleading. The ZRP is aware of individuals and groups responsible for circulating the fake press statement and appropriate investigations are underway,” he said.

“The public is urged to rely only on information released through the official ZRP platforms and verified media sources,” he saidThe fake post has since gone viral, sparking confusion and heated debate online. Police have launched investigations to track down the culprits behind the digital forgery.
