Well said Brian.In a time of rapid change, increasing complexity and highly transactional politics, we need to constatntly question our values and the paths we decide to take.Your points resonate also in my home country Peru. Democracy is sustained by the powers vested in the four institutions that hold it up. The legislature, the Judiciary the executive and the media should rely on their ability to check each other.

When the Judiciary and legislature are weak the executive will nearly always leap into Dictator mode. Just see what is happening in the US now. Let’s see how strong us democracy is in this conflict between the judiciary and Trump.

The judiciary in Zambia has found itself unable to check the government. The media tries to cross check government but most of it is under government control so it can’t do nothing.
