What’s on in Joburg: Thandiswa Mazwai’s Sankofa Festival and the Chinese New Year Festival

Thandiswa Mazwai will perform at her inaugural Sankofa Heritage Festival at Carnival City this weekend. This inaugural cultural event, which is set to be an annual gathering, coincides with Mazwai’s 50th birthday and celebrates her 30-year career in the music industry.

The festival seeks to preserve and celebrate indigenous African music. The “Ingoma” hitmaker will headline the event, where attendees will be treated to some of the biggest hits from her beloved discovery over the past three decades. Mazwai will be joined by Grammy-nominated American artist Somi, as well as Msaki, who will also perform.
