KwaZulu-Natal remains under weather warnings, with a yellow level two alert for severe thunderstorms forecast from Tuesday afternoon through to midnight on Wednesday. The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a yellow level two warning, cautioning that severe thunderstorms may bring heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning in some areas. According to Saws, isolated showers to scattered thundershowers are expected across most of the province, except in the north.
Some of these storms are expected to become severe in the southern parts of KZN, with possible impacts on infrastructure and communities. Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly when travelling on roads and bridges in low-lying areas that may be prone to flooding or sinkholes. Saws has urged people to avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, remain indoors where possible, and stay clear of windows.
“Shelter pets, cover vehicles and move livestock and cars to safe sheltered areas as there may be flying debris,” the weather service said. Motorists are warned not to cross swollen rivers or streams.
