The movement said it had decided to cut ties with Mchunu after its leadership found evidence of alleged interference aimed at weakening the organisation. The decision was announced in a media statement on Monday following an ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on July 25, to discuss a range of organisational matters. The development comes weeks after the movement’s nationwide protest on June 30, during which it called on undocumented foreign nationals to leave South Africa.

In a video posted on Monday, Mchunu appeared to dismiss the fallout, saying the movement had already achieved significant progress. “My people, it became dark on the evening of Monday, July 27.
