The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed the transfer of convicted offender Thabo Bester from Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre (C-Max) to eBongweni Correctional Facility in Kokstad, KZN. In a statement, department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said offender transfers are routine and are guided by security risk assessments aimed at ensuring the safety, security and stability of correctional facilities and the wider criminal justice system. “The offender will continue to receive appropriate care in line with applicable legislative and policyprescripts and will retain full access to legal representation, family communication, and court processes,” said Nxumalo.
He added that all necessary logistical arrangements remain in place to ensure that court appearances and legal proceedings proceed without disruption. Last year, businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, who has been a subject of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, was also moved from Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre (C-Max) to eBongweni Correctional Facility. The Department of Correctional Services confirmed that Matlala’s transfer took place on December 21.
