Most coaches across the various sporting codes at the Salga KZN DSAC Games praised the host, uMgungundlovu District Municipality, for staging one of the best events seen in local circles — while also raising a few concerns. “It was the best event I have ever seen held in the City, and it was well organised,” said soccer coach Msatshwa Nene. He spoke toThe Witnessafter the final against King Cetshwayo, where the home side lost 5–4 on penalties.

Nene said that although the team fell short in the shootout, his players showed character and were among the strongest sides in the tournament. We may be counted as runners-up, but this team was watched by everyone and performed well. The tournament was not easy at all — every team was well prepared and tough.

“Unfortunately, we did not take all the chances we created, and that’s football. “If you don’t convert your chances, you risk being punished by your opponents,” he said. He added that coaches would need more preparation time next year.
