The Msunduzi Municipality marked the start of the festive season with the lighting of the city’s nine-metre Christmas tree at Carbineers Garden, next to the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, on Friday evening. The tree was lit after an evening of Christmas carols, with officials thanking residents and stakeholders for their support throughout the year. Msunduzi Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla said the festive season should be a period of gratitude, unity and family.

“This was a year of significant service delivery through Operation Ilima and Operation Qoqimali. We said this year we would not just make promises, but demonstrate through action that we are serious about restoring the city,” he said. “We want to thank all our ratepayers and private partners for believing in and supporting us.

This is a time when families come together.
