WATCH: Men caught ‘surfing’ moving taxi in PMB

Two men who allegedly decided the back of a moving taxi was a good place to catch a ride have been hauled in for questioning after their dangerous stunt was caught on camera in Pietermaritzburg. The men were filmed hanging onto the back of a taxi as it travelled from Bombay Road onto Khan Road on Wednesday. Northern Suburbs Taxi Association (NSTA) secretary Zameer Sheik said the men were brought to the association’s offices and warned not to repeat the stunt.

The driver and conductor were also questioned and cautioned to be more vigilant. Sheik said it was unclear how the men managed to get onto the back of the taxi without the driver or conductor noticing. “As soon as we heard about the incident, we addressed the matter.

We don’t know how they got onto the taxi. “The driver and conductor were not aware of what was happening because they were not even in line with the rear-view mirror,” he said. Sheik said the driver eventually noticed the men and alerted the taxi owner.

“The NSTA security officer went out and the driver brought the two guys in and questioned them and warned them not to repeat it. “We also questioned the driver and conductor and warned them to be more vigilant,” he said. The incident has renewed concerns about dangerous behaviour involving public transport, particularly after another alarming taxi video surfaced in Pietermaritzburg last year.
