A local developer is investing millions into her hometown of Sweetwaters, with a major development set to bring retail, fuel and essential services closer to the community and strengthen the township economy. Thobekile Ndlovu, CEO of Thobethulani Trading is investing R75 million to build a retail centre in the area. The development involves upgrading long-established local shops that have operated in the community for many years.
This project is a dream come true because I am upgrading shops that I grew up buying from in kwaBhobho. Our parents also grew up buying from these shops. We bought all these shops 12 years ago and now own them.
We are upgrading them to a modern look. “Through this project, we are employing about 500 people, and it is a R75 million investment by a black women-owned company. “The shopping centre will also include a garage, built in a different direction from the existing one,” said Ndlovu.

She added that the development will also provide hardware services to the Sweetwaters community. “We are developing different sites, and this particular one has been approved by the City,” she said.
