An encounter with a brazen “Goldilocks” burglar — with sticky fingers for food and electronics — turned violent when the intruder, who had helped himself to a bowl of oats, along with valuables the previous day, returned and stabbed an elderly Hayfields resident. The 74-year-old victim, who asked not to be named, was stabbed twice with a screwdriver and injured his back during a scuffle with the burglar on Monday. He said the day before the stabbing, the same intruder ate a bowl of oats in his home, before making off with jewellery and cellphones.
The couple was in the toilet and bathroom when the break-in happened. My wife came out and shouted, asking what he was doing in our house. He had my drill and her handbag in his hand.
“He even had the cheek to ask her to open the kitchen gate so he could leave. “When he saw me, he tried to flee through the patio. “When I grabbed him, he fought back with a screwdriver we had been using for renovations. “I fought back but fell, and he ran off and jumped over the fence again,” he said.
