WATCH | Families demand justice after deadly love triangle

The families of Mzomuhle Shezi and Yoliswa Ngubane have welcomed the continued detention of murder accused Nelisiwe Zililo, saying they will not rest until justice is served for their loved ones, who died following a horrific house fire allegedly linked to a bitter love triangle. Zililo, 36, appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the matter was postponed to September 1 as the court awaits a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on whether the case will remain in the Magistrate’s Court or be transferred to the High Court for trial. Her appearance follows last week’s unsuccessful attempt to secure bail after the court heard that the address she had provided for her release could not be confirmed.

It emerged that relatives at the proposed address indicated they were not prepared to accommodate her should she be granted bail. The court also heard that other supporting documents, including a sworn affidavit confirming an alternative address and proof of residence, were still outstanding. Outside court, emotions ran high as relatives of the deceased said they believed Zililo should remain behind bars.

Speaking toThe Witness, Mzomuhle Shezi’s brother, Senzo Shezi, said the family continues to relive the trauma every time they attend court. Our family is still not okay. We are living with the pain of losing our brother in such a horrific way.

“We believe the accused should remain behind bars because of what she allegedly did to our brother. Nothing will ever bring him back, but we hope justice will.” Shezi described his brother as a loving father whose two daughters had been robbed of a parent. Yoliswa Ngubane’s aunt, Sane Ngubane, said her family remains devastated by the loss and believes the attack was carefully planned.
