Midlands Wanderers have admitted to a slow start to their maiden Motsepe Foundation Championship season and say they are determined to turn things around in the second round of the campaign. Supporters from across the uMgungundlovu region have voiced concern on various media platforms about the team’s performances in the first half of the season, with particular criticism directed at the technical bench. Wanderers are placed 14th on the log — third from the bottom — raising fears of relegation if results do not improve.

The team have played 14 matches so far — winning three, drawing three and losing eight. They have scored 10 goals, conceded 18 and collected 12 points. Speaking to The Witness on Tuesday, club founder and head coach Vincent “Masenti” Myeni conceded that the team struggled early in their NFD campaign, but promised improved results in the second round.

Myeni said the squad were fully aware of their poor start and the mistakes that had been made. “I agree that we are not happy with our current position, and the players know that,” Myeni said. “We are all unhappy with how we started the campaign.
